5 foods for the liver

The festive season is near and we are all going to indulge in food and drinks a litte more than usual. Add the following foods daily in your diet to support your liver:

  1. Lemons and Limes – squeeze half or one lemon or lime in half a glass of water and drink it first thing in the morning to stimulate the liver and benefit from vitamin C too.
  2. Artichokes – steam, bake, marinate or grill artichokes. They help to stimulate the release of bile, removing toxins and keep the bowel moving.
  3. Broccoli – rich in glucosinolates and sulphuraphanes; antioxidants that aid the liver in the removal of toxins and support the production of detoxifying enzymes within the liver.
  4. Garlic and Onions – rich in organic sulphur supporting phase 2 liver detoxification pathway of sulphation.
  5. Beetroot – rich in betaine a.k.a. trimethyglycine or TMG acts as a methyl donor, supporting the process of methylation, which is necessary for phase 2 liver detoxification.
